By Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, stated on August 18, 2026, in Osun State that he will not apologise to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for sharing the governor’s alleged West African Examinations Council (WAEC) result on social media.
Davido defended his actions, claiming he merely informed the people of Edo State about the academic record of their governor after Okpebholo mocked his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke
Speaking during an interview with News Central TV, Davido firmly rejected calls for an apology, saying, “I’m not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just telling people of the state the results their governor has.”
The controversy arose after Okpebholo criticized Adeleke for his dancing during political activities leading up to the governorship election on August 15. The Edo State governor had questioned Adeleke’s fitness to lead, saying, “Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing.”
In response, Davido had shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result, which ignited social media reactions and accusations of disrespect. He criticized Governor Okpebholo for attacking Governor Adeleke, and expressed concern for the governor’s children, saying, “I feel so bad for his kids.” Additionally, he derided Okpebholo’s status by highlighting his choice to stay in a hotel rather than his official residence, stating, “A whole governor staying in a hotel, walking around…”
Davido warned Okpebholo that the political rivalry would continue, asserting that when it comes time for Okpebholo’s re-election, they would revisit the issues at hand.
Regarding his political stance, Davido also announced during the August 18 interview that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 elections and will not support the All Progressives Congress (APC). He distanced himself from his uncle’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, confirming, “Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC.”

Davido explained his previous political engagements but emphasized, “for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody.” Despite his backing of other figures in the past, including support for Atiku Abubakar during his time in the Peoples Democratic Party, he remains unaligned for the impending election.
