By Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo assured members of Nigerian-American Nurses and Nursing Association in North America (NANNNA) on Friday that the state is safe for their travels despite prevailing concerns about insecurity in Nigeria.
His remarks came as a welcome to the association, which has historically faced hesitation in visiting Nigeria due to security issues.
“Thank God you are here and you can see for yourselves the security situation in our state. Nigeria is very safe, and we are also trying to make Edo safer for our people to do business. It will be safer in the next few months,” he stated, reflecting confidence in the state’s safety measures.
The governor emphasized the importance of supporting NANNNA’s initiatives, particularly as the group is dedicated to improving healthcare services in Edo State and Nigeria, generally. He encouraged NANNNA members to communicate their plans ahead of visits, to enable the government to streamline logistical difficulties they may encounter.
“Now that we have the Edo Diaspora Agency,, anytime you want to come, please notify us so that we can remove some of the burden from you in whatever way we can. We can support you as a government because you are using your money to work for the people, so we should also support you,” Governor Okpebholo said.
NANNNA Board Chairman Grace Ogiehor-Enoma shared insights about the association’s innovative programmes aimed at tackling healthcare challenges.. She said the association’s initiative, known as “Take Me to Your Village,” seeks to identify issues within struggling primary healthcare centres and adopt and revitalize such primary healthcare centres facilities directly.
“If the PHC in your village is falling down, you have to do it. That is why we say ‘”Take Me to Your Village”’ initiative, by adopting a PHC,” she explained.

During her visit, Ogiehor-Enoma expressed newfound confidence in the security environment, stating, “I feel safe being in Edo. Last time, after work, I came in about 10:00 p.m.”
According to Ogiehor-Enoma , the association’s mission is about practical solutions rather than simply pointing out flaws in the system.
She expressed appreciation to the state and the people of Edo for their support, adding that the experience had helped challenge some of the negative perceptions about security in Nigeria.
